What we store on your profile

When you set up FamSpot we save your suburb and postcode (to show spots near you), whether your household has kids or pets (to show family-friendly places first), and, optionally, your birth year. You can view or change all of this any time from Edit profile.

What other people can see

The only things shown publicly are your username and your tier. Your real name is never shown. Pins you add are credited to your username, which you choose and can change. Your suburb, postcode, birth year, email and family details stay private to you.

Weekly family-events email

The weekly family-events email is on by default. You can turn it off any time from Edit profile.

Anonymous usage analytics

We track simple, anonymous events, like saving a spot or applying a filter, to understand what helps families most. These events never include your name, email, or address. You can turn this off any time in your profile.

Session recording (opt-in)

With your permission, we record anonymised sessions to find and fix problems. Personal fields (email, suburb, postcode, and birth year) are masked before recording, so they are never captured. Recording is OFF until you tap Accept, and you can decline at any time.

Feedback survey

If you fill in our quick feedback survey, your answers are anonymous. At the end you can choose to leave your email or phone. We only collect these if you say yes, and we use them for two things: to follow up on your feedback, and to let you know when FamSpot gets better. We never share or sell them, and you can ask us to remove them any time.

Children’s information

FamSpot does not collect your children’s names, ages, or genders. We only ask whether your household has kids, so we can show family-friendly places first. That’s it.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account any time from your profile. The spots you added stay on the map to keep helping families, but they’re credited to FamSpot, not you. Everything personal (your name, username, email, suburb, postcode, birth year, saved spots and family details) is permanently removed. Deletion doesn’t happen straight away: you have 30 days to change your mind, and you can cancel any time from your profile before then.

Do Not Track

If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, we turn off all analytics and recording automatically. No action needed.

Photos of places, not people

Photos help families find good spots, but to keep children safe, do not upload photos that show identifiable people, especially children. Photograph the place itself (the room, the playground, the facilities), not faces. Every photo is checked by our team before it appears, and we remove any photo that shows identifiable people.

Open-data sources

Some places on FamSpot are seeded from publicly available government open data, then reviewed by our team before they appear. Each imported place shows its source and licence on its detail page. We gratefully acknowledge these sources, used under their open licences (most are Creative Commons Attribution, CC BY):
